Maritime Museum @ San Diego

Today, we visited the Maritime Museum of San Diego, located right on the water in San Diego Bay. It is comprised of 10 or so ships wet-docked and lashed together for you to explore. They have some beautiful ships here with lots of history, including: the still active barque The Star of India, a replica of Juan Cabrillo’s San Salvador, a replica of the HMS Rose (HMS Surprise) used in the movie Master and Commander, a US Navy PCF (Swift Boat) used in Vietnam, a Soviet Project-631 B-39 submarine used during the Cold War, etc. There are also active duty and retired servicemen and women who volunteer here.
For a comparison of US Navy PCFs (Swift Boats) vs PBRs (smaller fighter boats featured in Coppola’s Apocalypse Now), see this video.
