Fishing Mosquito Lagoon

Posted on March 15, 2012July 19, 2021 by Joe Del Rocco

Today I took my father-in-law fishing at Mosquito Lagoon (more info), part of Canaveral National Seashore.

I chartered Captain Don Hutson, recommended by a friend, and I couldn’t have picked a better man! He is absolutely the greatest fisherman I have ever met in my life, and is probably one of the best in the business. Not only does he clearly have the skills to find and catch fish, he is knowledgeable and friendly as well. He kept us entertained all day long catching all kinds of fish of various sizes and telling us stories about the area and fishing in Florida. I can’t recommend him enough!

We caught 7 redfish, 5 trout, and 1 catfish. Of those, we kept 6 fish.

Near the end of the day, Don said “alright, let’s go catch us a monster,” and found and put us on a 45″ 30+lb redfish that took about 45 minutes to reel in! It took all 3 of us to reel it in taking turns. Here is a picture of that fish…
