Refurbished Workbench for Classroom

Posted on August 1, 2022January 17, 2023 by Joe Del Rocco

My wife found a FREE hutch from a very nice gentleman who was rearranging space in their refurbished furniture shop in the Packing District. The piece was quite old but still solid and had been painted many times over the years. Oddly, it came with a long, heavy piece of marble laid in-between the bottom cabinet and top cupboard.

I sanded off several layers of paint, down to the bare wood on cabinet countertop. I repainted most of the hutch white but kept the dark gray for the cubby holes. I sealed the cabinet top with a natural sealer and coated the rest with a clear, satin polyurethane. Finally, I cut and installed a pegboard for tools and put in a few new drawer handles.

I think it came out pretty nice as a workbench for material storage and shop projects 🙂
