Honored to be The Parke House Academy Volunteer of the Year 2019! Every teacher in the school prepared a special dish for the volunteers luncheon. It was really nice (and delicious). Love this school!

IST SMST Day Poster Award
Won a best poster award at UCF IST School of Modeling, Simulation & Training‘s first research+industry forum, dubbed SMST Day. If interested, here is the poster I presented. Congratulations also to Arash Zarmehr for both his posters! He’s done some fantastic work in the building performance space. You can see I’m always promoting Cacti Council…
LaTeX Assignment Template
Added a LaTeX template for homework assignments on Overleaf. Please feel free to use it. I’m biased, but I think it’s neat and organized (and my TA liked it). It’s even Star Trek themed! Here is an example PDF.
Palm Beach Zoo
We visited the Palm Beach Zoo on the way back from our stay at the Waldorf Astoria in Boca Raton. It’s a beautiful little zoo/conservatory located in a public park near West Palm Beach. There was no wait when we showed up (mid-morning). It has 4 main walkable areas, some larger than others. They have…
UCF Graduate Research Forum
Participated in the UCF Graduate Research Forum this year. Hundreds of graduate students presented some of their research in poster format, in a ballroom at the student union. Judges came by and delved into the topic with each participant. It was really nice to see so many budding scientists and so much interest work taking…
Lizard House
Built a lizard house for our garden with my son, using leftover construction materials.
Silver Springs State Park
Shared a cabin with my buddy Shane at Silver Springs State Park, “gateway to Ocala National Forest.” Their cabins are sometimes hard to come by, and he found a last minute opening. It was one of the last good weather weekends of the year (for us in Florida). We didn’t do the typical glass-bottom boat…
The Terrier Brothers
Saw Tom Hook with Eddie Metz and Bobby Durham – also known as The Terrier Brothers – along with trombonist Pat Gullota at the Blue Bamboo tonight. They were all fantastic and very friendly. They have decades of experience and have played all over the world. As a trio they mostly play New Orleans style…
Volunteer Fence Building
Today I helped The Parke House Academy build a new fence for their little ones (lower division). A few of the 4×4 posts were reclaimed from my fence that I was replacing. After building, I sanded the low gateway fence to help avoid any unnecessary splinters 🙂
Reclaimed Wood Pendant Light
I decided to do something useful with our dilapidated old fence that needed to be replaced ***. A simple looking, rustic ceiling light/chandelier at First Watch caught my eye. It was larger than I needed, but I used the general style. Initially I saved some of the rest of the wood to be used as…
